JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
Stars 50 one rebuy one add on. I have never seen villain before in my life so don't know what to make of him.
I often 3 bet pre but the OR is pretty tight and i decided to play my position. I don't think he'd jam KK/AA here, but he could, as a total unknown quite hard to say. Poker Stars No Limit Holdem Tournament Blinds: t300/t600 (Ante: t50) 9 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: t12751 UTG+1: t7325 MP1: t7860 MP2: t19267 MP3: t20578 Hero: t32009 Button: t13375 SB: t21171 BB: t19709 Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is CO with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 folds, MP2 raises to t1800, MP3 folds, Hero calls t1800 (pot was t3150), Button folds, SB raises all-in t21121, 2 folds, Hero? Alrite, i'll stop clogging board with OP's tonight guys. |

Without any reads it looks like a fold to me.

Re: JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
That's a +cEV shove for sure. AK is sooo much of his range and KK+ so little of it.

Re: JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
Call
Putting SB on a AA-QQ+TT+AK+AQs range makes it a call for sure. Also we must consider a wider range since your call made the squezee quite tasty for SB. Especially the possibility of SB squezing with small pairs makes this a treat. Take away AA+KK as you suggest and we cant even hesitate. |

Re: JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
I described a not dissimilar situation to a friend the other night and he said "It's always Jacks or Tens in these coups isn't it ?"
And it is. Because with QQ or 99 there's no real dilemma - call/fold respectively. The way the action's gone down here I think I'd call without any additional read on villain. I like the initial call, but part of the reason I do it is to induce a loose "squeeze raise" behind so when orig raiser passes I think I have to call even though it's a big bet so pot odds aren't great. At least partly because there must be some doubt as to whether he would shove AA/KK. You call, he has QQ (or AK that hits), meh, better luck next time :-) |

that's a fold without reads, but it's marginal.

Re: JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
This can't be a fold. There's a pile of dead money in the pot, TT is in his range, as is 99 sometimes, we can weight AA somewhat lighter and this is so very often AK. I'll often look for reasons to fold but I can't see any reason not to call here. We're not even in that bad a shape if we lose and we can batter the table with our stack if we win.

Re: JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
Doesn't this look a bit squeezish? Sure you and the OR aren't in LP, but you aren't both in EP either.
Looks like an easy call. |

Re: JJ facing massive shove in the stars 50/r/a
Easy call, his range looks like this probably: TT+,AQs+,AKo and with all the dead money in the pot it's an instacall. Also, he could be making a squeeze.
