XBOX 360 - Turn off "XXX is online" announcements?

When I'm watching a movie on the XBXO 360 those "JazzyJeff is online" announcements really bug me. Is the the only way to disable them is not to sign-in to XBOX Live whenever I watch media?

hit the middle button --> personal settings --> notifications.

yikes, this has always been annoying for me as well, thanfully now it can be stopped...
