Default Joe Pelton hand 25k Bellagio....are you folding in this spot??

The key hand was earlier though. I was back up to 45k. Grinder limps, I make it 1k with 76. Carlos Zambrano (who I didn’t know yet) calls, and Grinder calls.

Flop comes 662.

Grinder checks. I bet 2,100. Carlos calls and Grinder makes it 10k more with like 3k left behind. I make it another 10k and Carlos then moves all in having us both covered. My instinct was to call (I had a little more than 20k left) but I took some time to think about it, he could have 22 a bigger 6…the only hands he might push with are AsKs which I would have thought he’d raise with by now. After a long time I folded. He had AA and beat grinders KJ. I should have had 100k instead of 20k.

First time in my life I made a big fold and it backfires."

Serious question, are you laying this hand down in that spot? (obv considering the magnitude of this particular tourney). I know someone can 'always have x-x' in this spot, but isn't this what you are hoping for when coming in for 1k w/ 76s. You hit, you lead out for 2100......?? Also, the flat call with aces threw me off a bit.

Impossible to evaluate when we know the hands.

faux pas. I figured it might be a known hand since the Grinder was in it. Oh well, if it's dead it's dead. FWIW I would never fold "I flopped trips".

I think it is a pretty bad fold of trips, particularly considering pot odds with half his stack already in the pot. Obviously, he loses to another trips or a boat, and he probably doesn't think someone has a big pair from the preflop action.

The flat call with AA preflop is also questionable. You usually don't do this against a raise of a limper, as you don't want a 3-way pot. It sounds like the limper and raiser were loose players, which may have motivated the flat call, and in this case a reraise should take the pot preflop.

joe knows what he's doing though, and if the guy with AA thought he was the nuts with his AA and joe read him for that, then meh.

Another reason I found the hand to be interesting is because I recently caught a re-run of the 2006 USPC and Jordan Morgan was in a similar situation. He in fact played the hand a little closer to what I probably would have done if I was caught in the middle. If memory serves, a guy with 99 limped early, Jordan also limped with 45s, and 'the epitome of NJ poker' (forgot his name) raised it up with AA. 99's called, pricing in Morgan who also called. flop comes 4-4h-3h, pocket 9's leads out (not much behind), Jordan smooths, and Joisey pops it up to 50k. The guy with 9's puts him on AK and calls all in. At this point, Morgan decides to jam on Joisey (he had Jordan covered) and the guy for some reason or another makes the huge call with naked aces. Obviously there are a few differences between the two, but a key hand is a key hand, especially when you're in a great spot to triple up.

why wouldn't he think AA was the "nuts"? it looks great on that flop with that preflop action
