Default pushups every day?

They say not to lift weights for the same muscle group two days in a row. Does this apply to abs and pushups? I think it was Tom Brady who said he would get out of bed and do 40 or so pushups every day.

Abs are like any other muscle....take some time off from them. Everyday doesnt help enough to make it worth while

Man, what's with this place lately? First there's a thread where a guy reccomends eating an entire box of cookies every day, then the I want to get into athletic shape but not do anything thread, and now this.

Seriously though, if all you have time for is doing pushups when you wake up, then do pushups. It's better than nothing. But if you want to maximize strength or muscle size, you need to lift weights. But if you are lifting weights, you should not be doing a lot of pushups everyday. There is nothing special about your abs or chest muscles that make them respond differently than any other muscles

If your goal is to do alot of pushups, then just go to the gym regularly and lift regularly. The bench press will help you out enormously.

I remember about 4-5 years ago I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week. I could do about 65-70 pushups before I even got tired. Now I can do about 35.
