Preflop - I make it 4

Flop - Standard

Turn - Standard

River - Ugh. I don't think your hand is good >30% of the time

I also don't think I'm good here often after he raises but I can't fold with only $5 behind.

Should I have checked the river and folded to a strong bet? Somehow that doesn't seem right either.

If you bet, might as well have pushed. Staying with $5 behing doesn't make much sense, as you are not folding for $5 more. Either bet less (around 1/2 pot) or shove. Even 1/2 pot leaves you with $9 behind which is hard to fold if he raises, since you are getting ~ 5:1.

River play is not str8 forward here since villian checked turn. If you check, you could miss value but getting raised sucks. In the heat of things I probably check and call up to 1/2 pot.

I think the river is a situation where you might be at negative EV no matter what, so the task may be to minimize the negativeness.

I think that's accomplished by a check-call versus a very aggressive postflop player (even though aggresion doesn't converge across 50 hands, I am going to hope an aggressive player is more likely to bet a worse hand than trip queens here.) I don't like a check-fold because the aggresive player may just not give you credit for a Queen himself.

grunching....

ugh I think check/fold river is correct even tho I don't like it. You only beat an AK that was floating and hit its K.

My guess is you were up against KK.....

I know aggro stats converge slowly but villian's play I observed was entirely in line with his stats. (Pushing marginal hands/bluffs and the like.)

Check_the__nuts, I think you are right but don't forget the 88-JJ range as well as a pure bluff than an over-aggressive NL25 player could push here after my turn check.

All, Now that I thought about it a lot more and with the help of the responses my thoughts are:

1) There's a good chance that we will have to felt this either way due to the aggressiveness of our opponent.
2) Check/call even if he pushes is probably the least -EV although he will probably push regardless of his holdings. (This was the initial reason for my river bet: before doing it I decided that I was ready to play for stacks.)
