Default Somewhat OT: What does 40/20/5 Mean

OK, I'm fairly positive if a player is said to be a 40/10/x, that 40 is 40% hands played, 10 is 10% pre-flop raiser, but what does the X mean ??? Also, if I'm wrong about the first two, slap me :-) ...

I've checked the FAQ, but couldn't find anything, or I'm going blind ...

they are not so important and will hold you back in the long run because if u follow them u will not learn to be really good...anyways i never use them but it means something like 40% preflop raising, 20% VPIP and 5 is an aggression number....dont learn this stuff.

Hi ronbo1964,

The 40 is VPIP, the percentage of times your opponent voluntarily puts in chips to see the flop. (This is the quickest statistic to use when assessing looseness/tightness.)

The 10 is indeed pre-flop raise percentage.

The x is usually post-flop aggression factor, which is determined by taking a ratio of bets/raises to calls, so that the higher this number is, the more aggressive your opponent tends to play after the flop.

Personally I find these #'s to be quite useful, but beware that if the sample size is insufficient, the data are not providing you with useable information. E.g., 40/10/0.5 would indicate you are up against a (roughly) loose-passive opponent based on 500 hands, but after 5 or 10 hands, you wouldn't really know anything because a player of any style could play 4 of 10 given hands, raising once pre-flop, and not aggress much post-flop. The actual cut-off for useable # of hands required is debateable, but let us say 40-50 at an absolute minimum.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,
Collin

These numbers (especially the first two) can be pretty accurate after a pretty small sample size (comparably to other stats). I find them quite useful for helping to determine someone's range.

You are all cheaters for using PAHUD or other software while playing. Numbers and math have nothing to do with winning or losing at poker.

40/20/5 means he's a maniac. If you have more than 10 hands on him.
