1 year escape
I have recently had some investments pay off as well as making a solid return on poker (not a pro, just supplementary income). As well as the financial side of things have gone my wife and I have had some personel tragedies occur. Our paths down the suburban family route with an SUV, soccer practice and parent teacher interviews seemed well defined. Now we find ourselves at a crossroads. We have decided to travel/ live abroad for a year. We don't need to work and plan on changing our career paths when we return home. My question is what would you do with a year off and the world at your feet?
things to consider -we have a dog that we would love to have with us,so somewhere in north, central, south america seems ideal because of pet allowances and no flights (we could drive) alot of other countries have 6 month quarantine restrictions on pets -we have a budget of roughly 60K - 80K (cdn) to live on assuming we dont work or make any poker income -we currently live in western canada -I have access to free accomodations to base ourselves out of in laughlin nevada (we dont really want to live in laughlin but seems like a good spot to base out of and explore western usa for a bit of a roadtrip) -We have both travelled extensively and I have a preference for SE asia, while my wife prefers either island life or europe. -I would like to be near a casino to try to earn a little -We are adventuresome and like outdoors, hiking, kayaking etc. But not "roughing it" kind of backpacking people. We both love fine dining and nicer type of amenities -We are open to moving around and spending time in several different places Cant think of anything else at the moment. |

How about Macau? Seems to fit a lot of what you're looking for.

Croatia. Stunningly beautiful, half the price of Western Europe, stacks of islands to sea kayak around and explore, you can pop over to Italy any time you want to get a taste of the high life, and you're just a hop over from Lubiana to keep your poker coffers fullish.
Not sure about the dog though. |
