Re: 30/60 stud - did I miss a bet?
In hindsight, yeah I guess so but I wouldn't get into a raising war on the river with your trips unless you had a good read on him. His board is alot more coordinated than yours. You were beat until the river...

If I play 5th, I probably raise; is this wrong?

I can't fault you too much for not raising the river. The other guy's board is kinda scary. I would still pop it against typical opponents at this level.
The word is "villain." |

you might want to raise river obv, but given how hand played you lose 1 BB by not doing it. I would have raise river but not a big deal if you don't

Re: 30/60 stud - did I miss a bet?
Raise the end against any reasonably aggressive opponent at this level. It's possible you're beat, but you're a clear favorite even when called against the vast majority of people who'd play heads-up $30/60.
In fact, I think I agree with cgrohman, and find a (semi-bluff or free river or free showdown or value) raise on fifth or sixth, but this depends on the opponent. What site is this? The $15 bring-in at $30/60 is a terrible structure for stud, but I think it's nearly perfect for heads-up play. The low card is at such a disadvantage in stud games that it needs the extra incentive to play heads-up, to keep tight, nitty players from dominating. |

Re: 30/60 stud - did I miss a bet?
I think that raising 5th is a big mistake, as you have no fold equity, your board is not scary (meaning you might get three bet by many hands), plus you are rarely a large favorite over your opponents range of hands (at best he has a pair+overcard or a 4 card draw plus an overcard, at worse he has Qs, Qs up, a pair+4 flush, or unlikely trips).
I'd just call 5th and see what you and your opponent catch on 6th. If he catches good (which he did) I'd just call. If he checks I'd bet regardless of what we catch. If we both rag I'd raise against an agro opponent who would bet a pair of 8s against me thinking I am on a draw. But if I catch a scary card (a diamond) and my opponent still bets I'd just call because he is showing a lot of strength vs my scary board. The river is a slim value raise against most, but the opponent's board is pretty scary, so I wouldn't say it is definite. You probably don't have to fear a 3 bet because it looks like you might have a flush when you raise, so your opponent might assume that you can beat his possible Q hi flush. Regards, Carlos |
