Here's an idea I've been thinking about for my home game. It's a spin on "overs" buttons. When a player decides they would like to raise the blind then have them take a "raise blinds" button from the dealer and place it in front of them. When everyone playing has one of these buttons then the blinds get doubled at that point and pass the buttons in. This *seems* like a good way to silently take a vote to increase the blinds and not pester the people who don't want the increase. For the button, just use a color chip that isn't in circulation or better yet the worthless dice that seem to come with every poker-chip set. Ya think this would work? Anyone trying something like this in their NL game? BTW, we're talking micro blinds to begin with .10/.20

[/ QUOTE ] So, 6 players are at the table, and 3 have BtB buttons... and if Player C,D and F fold, you then double the blinds? Or this only works if everyone at the table has the button before the deal? Give us some examples of how you'd use them. Also, with the stacks creeping upwards from rebuys, doesn't the game play automatically bigger? |

Why do you need to raise the blinds?
Do you have players that do not want to have the blinds raised? Why not just pick a time at which point the blinds go up? Other than that I think your idea has possibilities. |

I'm guessing that in a home game you pretty much know who wants to play higher and who doesn't. No need for buttons. When only the players who want to play higher are left at the game, then you guys stop and discuss.

You guys are right about the game getting deep, we'll have people with $50-100 and not everyone really know each other well enough to just "know" when it's time to up the blinds. Also there might be one or two who simply don't want the blinds to go up ever and they don't have to argue their case every time a vote comes up, just not take a button. So in short, the purpose of the button is to take the discussion out of it, and the timeline out as well. If everyone who's bought in has a button the blinds move from .10/.20 to .25/.50 and that's that. |

Everyone who's sitting with a stack has to have a button and there there's a permanent raise in the blinds. Same thing as in a Limit hold'em game.... when all players elect for overs then the blinds and bets increase permanently because, well, everyone is playing overs. (*b.t.w... why is "hold'em" showing up as a misspelled word in this posting box?) |

Why raise blinds when you can straddle

I like the subtly of this strategy. Plus, you could reinforce the aggression by gettting special chips with something like "I play big" or some other phrase that would encourage players to consider raising the blinds. You should allow the blinds to keep getting raised, like the doubling cube in backgammon. That would add some more interest.

just teach em how to straddle, those who want to play bigger will feel like straddling and that just makes the game bigger anyways.
