When I raised my plan was to call a push (correct?). Then villian goes for the good old min reraise. Is this always a big pair and my way out? The preflop call was a stop and go.

He didn't minrereaise you. Reads are very important here.

Would prefer an open push preflop.
Without a read that the guy is a maniac, I think you need to fold here preflop. |

Sorry about the reads. No idea who he is. I cut and paste hands and post them at work the next day which doesn't help my reads either.
Pushing preflop: Pushing preflop is certainly +ev but isn't a standard raise "better"? I can't really explain why though, anyone? |

darin,
Jman made a post awhile ago about midlevels in sngs. His thesis was that since people don't have reads in midlevels they will often make the right play with the given information, but if they had reads it would be an easy play. If you raise/fold here you could be making a mistake, but you have no idea, by open jamming you can prevent making bigger mistakes later. That being said I don't mind making it 250 here. |

Unless you open push QQ+, which you shouldn't, pushing makes your hand too transparent and narrows your hand to 99-JJ, AK.

So you don't think it matters if we just open push ~13 BBs w/ ~ 88-JJ, AQ+? It would make life a lot easier especially when multitabling. I did notice that river prayer made some 13 BB open pushes... |

FWIW there is a wealth of STT knowledge if your search Jman28 -"re:" I agree with Todd. That very few people pay attention to this and against a bunch of unknowns openshoving good be good, especially since a lot of people think OVERBET=AK call with any pair. |
