Default Cardinals Pirates 4-11

I don't frequent this forum but every so often I find a game that screams at me as a must play.

Today is such a day.

St. Louis -140 Maholm must start for the bucs.

The key here is that Paul Maholm is a finesse type pitcher who delivered a very subpar performance against the Reds last time.

Finesse type pitchers need to find their comfort zone before throwing well......usually when they do find it, they will pitch well for an extended period of games.

Maholm's last outing showed he hasn't found his touch and I'm banking that he won't find it today as he gets the call in an early start, 12:30 eastern and temps in the 40's. Randy Marsh is calling balls and strikes and is known to be an "over" type umpire.

St.Louis sends out the sharp youngster Adam Wainwright who has proven already that he's very solid in cold weather.

We're also getting slightly better value than we should be getting as we're playing the away team.

It all adds up to me and looks like a very good opportunity.

Good luck all.

I totally agree with Coy Roy, ST. louis looks really good in this one. How anyone could bet the Pirates is beyond me, they are a brutal team vs the defending Champs.. whipsaw must have lost it.

I love this parlay....
KC +168
Minny +160

The better pitchers are on these teams yet they are big dogs....might not hit, but worth a shot.

sorry to trainwreck this thread, but coolmoedee started to be fair. Chacin actually pitched well in his first performance, and mike mussina is well mike mussina. Neither of these pitchers are slouches to be sure. Your sportsbook has better odds than mine by a good bit, so it might make it a good play. However I don't see it happening, I see at least the toronto game turning into a pitching dual, and the NYY i look to continue hitting the ball versus whoever for at least 4 runs a game even against the best on the mound. I am personally staying away from both of these games.

Where are you getting Minnesota+160 and why do you think Ramon Ortiz is better than Mike Mussina?

Meh...possibly the least talented Champions in MLB history and they only got worse over the offseason. So far this season PIT has played above their expected ability (making me wonder if it might be their actual ability). PIT is manufacturing runs where STL is leaving them on base.

I would probably also take STL in this game only because Maholm's first start was less than impressive if I had a gun to my head, but it's not a sure bet in my opinion.

Late now, but I think the best money on this game was the under. Then again, I'm bleeding money in MLB right now and they still have a few more innings to [censored] me over.
