Default bottom set through 2 check raises?

10/20 nl at the commerce.. deep about 9g's

I hate laying down sets..I HATE LAYING DOWN SETS! anyhow,
an everyday Monday at the commerce against 2 good players who were playin a bit passive PF. I raise them in MP from the CU to $100. Blinds fold we take it 3way.

5s, 9s, 10d and it's checked to me.

Here's where my sniffer started to pick something up. As I began to bet I noticed the next player in turn curiously eyeballin the player in between us who was feeling out chips and turned very silent. Here are their stacks..

mp5 $7500
mp6 $13,000

I finished out my bet of $300 trying to see if I was already behind and BAM I get checked raised for 6 hundred more and he gets checked raised for $1200 more.

Clearly feeling outflopped by nines or tens I deliberated for about a minute before laying down my bottom set.

MP5 calls..Turn card Js

Board: 5s, 9s, 10d, Js

check, check? I'm feeling a bit bullied thinking I made a bad laydown against a draw and two pair.

5s, 9s, 10d, Js, As Board

MP5 checks MP6 bets $900 and MP5 calls
MP5 9c,10c
MP6 10s,Jd

I HATE LAYING DOWN SETS...I felt good about my read intially but damn was I off apparently..I picked up and went home to think about why my radar was off .. comments appreciated..
