99 in BB - 4 limpers
$20+2/180 man. UTG has limped once or twice and has shown strenght on flop, and MP1 has limped a couple times and has called an all-in from a short stack after limping with 88. I get stuck in this position a couple times and can't decide whether to take a free flop or try to isolate, hoping that 99 is the best hand.
Was wondering how other 2+2er's would play this. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) MP1 (t4205) MP2 (t12045) CO (t6715) Button (t21150) SB (t5095) Hero (t4377) UTG (t5873) UTG+1 (t4930) Preflop: Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG calls t200, 1 fold, MP1 calls t200, MP2 calls t200, CO calls t200, 2 folds, Hero ??? |

Re: 99 in BB - 4 limpers
I don't know anything about the $20/180s but my inclination here would be to shove. There is 1K in the pot. Winning that without a showdown increases your stack by 20%. If you get a called, I like 99 against limp/calling ranges.
The only exception would be if a player who almost never limped in EP suddenly open-limped. |

I agree with Sherman27. If EP has never limped before, you should check here, otherwise, shove and expect to get called with 55-88.

Re: 99 in BB - 4 limpers
I think mining a set here is the best play. Sure you may win the limps and have an edge on a coinflip, but a far bigger edge might make itself available.
Lets say we flop a nine and one of the multi-ways flops a pair or better. 4k stackage on a cheap investment, and best of all we get to see the flop without risking our great sized stack. I can fold nines on a KJ board. Nines could certainly be pushed here with a shorter stack. They could also be raised up with a bigger stack, as the prior response mentions. With this stack size and multi-ways, lets mine that set. Chant slowly in your head nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine... it helps. |

and pray everyone folded. [/ QUOTE ] Why? If you really think you are behind that often we are only bluffing and you might as well have 23o. Here, there is a real possibility of being called by worse hands (i.e. high unpaired cards and lower pairs). |

I shove because UTG has limped a few times.

[/ QUOTE ] :Sigh: No it isn't. If you really think that getting called it bad (i.e. you are certain that when you get called you are behind) you might as well have any two cards. My point is that shoving here with any two cards is probably profitable. But shoving with 99 is even more profitable b/c we are favored against villain calling ranges. Shoving and praying everyone folds is silly. You would obvioulsy like Mr. Sherriff (sp?) to call with his limped 44. There are plenty of other situations I shove and pray that everyone folds...but those are complete bluffs. This shove is for VALUE! |
