Default Foxwoods 4/27-28 & advice from those who have been lately

I am heading to Foxwoods for Friday 4/27, and probably 4/28 also. This will be my first B&M since I started playing on-line in October. From about ’93-98 I logged about 500 hours a year playing 5-10 stud at Foxwoods, but stopped playing poker altogether after marriage/kids until I picked up hold-em online.

Couple questions for those who go there (doc, man of means, etc.):

From trip reports, I see people signing up and waiting a long time for a table. Are you no longer able to phone in your name to the list (I used to do this when I was about 30 mins away)?

If I get there for noon on both Friday and Saturday, will I have beaten the rush and be able to get on a table fairly quickly? I plan to play about noon-midnight each day. I have about a 75 minute ride back to home in Massachusetts.

From what I read of trip reports, 2-4 seems like the level for me. My online track record in chronological order is: +160 BB 4k hands .25-50 stars, + 80 BB 2k hands .5-1.0 Stars (thinking I’m pretty good), -380 BB 10k hands .5-1.0 FTP (thinking I suck), +320 BB 12k hands .5-1.0 FTP (realizing there’s a lot of variance in poker). So I am about 25 BB in 25k hands .5-1.0, basically breakeven before boni.

Anyone else going to be there?

You can still phone your name onto the list, but not at the limits I play (you might want to check about $4/$8). You shouldn't have to wait too long for a table getting there at noon on a friday.

If you have enough cash, play $4/$8. It's still easier than $0.50/$1 online and the rake is much, much better.

Yeah you can probably play 4/8 Limit at foxwoods and the waitlist is hardly ever bad. I might be there that weekend. Shoot some PM's when you are going.

Not knowing how you play, I can't recommend a game.

But don't sell yourself short, espec if you were a solid stud player in the pre-Moneymaker era.

Low limit players at foxwoods are generally worse than their online counterparts. In fact a number of "learned" how to play low limit HE by watching ESPN.
But if you haven't played live casino poker in a while, there is nothing wrong with spending the first hour at 2-4.

PS: the poker room is a bit bigger than you remember it

I haven't been in a while (6 months) but I'd recommend 4/8. Both games are going to be pretty rocky during the afternoon and get wilder as the night goes on.

2/4 with the $2 yellow chips is a horrible structure.

when i play this game (which is rare now) I buy in for a rack of white...like you would at any normal casino that spreads 2/4. That way when i raise, I can look more threatening putting out two stacks of two chips rather than just 2 yellow chips next to each other. Plus it makes the pot look bigger and you'll get called down by pocket 4's every time.

In its favor, the 2/4 has far more cute girls playing in it than the 4/8.

They let you do that?

I remember dealers making players moving from 2/4 to 1/2NL go to the cage to swap yellow for red.

Red's no good (too much time spent making change) but white plays. You just say something like "Oh, this is what I got at the cage".
