Yeah, a kid in HS I played against could do this. He wasn't great or anything, but he did it a few times.

Re: Creighton pitcher can throw with both arms
yes. Jaime Ivring who played for harvard in the early 90's could pitch with both arms.
We had him on our independent minor-league team in Johnstown, PA in 1995. His nickname in the bull-pen was "Bi" Righty he had a better fastball and lefty he had better breaking stuff. He had a glove that was reverseable but he wouldn't switch arms mid-appearance or anything like that. He could come in one day later though and use the other arm when most pitchers would need another day of rest. So our manager considered it like having an 'extra arm' in the bullpen. But after a couple of so-so outings as a righty our manager decided to make him a just a lefty specialist. He didn't even want him practicing right-handed in the bullpen anymore because he thought it was too distracting for him and was taking away from his overall ability. Jaime didn't listen and would still get in some tosses with his right arm when he could get away with it. Late in the season he was on the mound when the umpire made a terrible call and the other team's manager came out to argue it for 10-15 minutes or something. The argument was at home-plate. So to keep his arm loose as pitchers tend to do, he played some catch with the 1st baseman. Except the next batter was a righty and he decided to loosen up his right-arm. Thus when we got back to the game finally he actually did get to use both arms in the same game. it was believed to be the first time in a few decades that a minor-leaguer was known to have pitched from both arms in the same innning. Then Greg Harris did it a few mths later. |

Re: Creighton pitcher can throw with both arms
From the article ShaneP linked:
"The last pitcher to use both hands in a pro game had been Bert Campaneris, who did so in 1962 while playing for Daytona Beach in the Florida State League. (JCA/JGR)" I saw this before when Greg Harris did it and thought to contact Baseball America but I never got around to it. While Johnstown wasn't in the affiliated minors it WAS a professional team. And I can tell you with 100% certainty that Jaime Irving pitched with both arms in the same game earlier in 1995 as I was the radio broadcaster for that game. It really isn't THAT big a deal. But I do think Irving should get some recognition for his achievement. It could probably be confirmed by the Johnstown newspaper I suspect. |

Jim Abbott pitched using one hand...because he only had one hand.
