Default Post-Katrina New Orleans

I'm expecting capital investment to start pouring into this ACer's paradise any day now.

N.O. was a liberal utopia before.... ran by lefties and far lefties for years, seems to be a perfect example of why socialism doesnt work.

New Orleans has exactly as much government it had the day before the hurricane. More per capita, now.

It obviously no longer has a monopoly on violence. And money being funneled by crooked pols to crooked contractors doesn't really constitute a government presence.

Natural disasters and an ill prepared government are examples of why socialism doesn't work? Then Pluto's loss of planetary status is a perfect example of why the Republicans were in power for so long.

No...Pre Katrina N.O. was a crime and poverty ridden city...accomplishments of a far left city system. THAT is why it is a good illustration of why socialism doesnt work.
The place had been run by dems forever, you would think with all the programs and govt...that it would be a city without poverty, a city without crime. A lib utopia.

With all the new modding that's been going on, locking this thread is a slam dunk.

I think I'm making a fair point. The government has clearly lost (or refuses to assert) control over portions of New Orleans. The resulting vacuum has lead to lawlessness and violence, which is the exact opposite of how ACists theorize that people would behave in the absence of government. I'll guess that the AC response is that the people are behaving in such a manner because they were "trained" by the government to do so, or some other such nonsense.

I didn't know that NOLA had lost control of the City. The only abandoned neighborhood I'm aware of, the Lower 9th Ward, is still largely deserted. My understanding is that city services for most of the rest is close to normal. The only real period of anarchy was in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane.

those who support Ac admit that it will only work given certain conditions. One of these is adequate resources and a sufficient lack of scarcity which will prevent most transgressions against property rights. If there is enough food and you have enough money to buy food then there is no reason for you to steal it and agress against others.

NO certainly does not display this.
