Default For Sale: The Chicago Cubs

It's official. The Tribune Company has been sold, and the new owner is going to sell off the Cubs.

Sam Zell to sell Cubs

The questions are:

1. How much will they eventually sell for?
2. Will the new owners keep the team in Wrigley Field?
3. Who's going to buy the club? Mark Cuban is every Cub fan's wet dream, but he's not the frontrunner.

There's more, but this is a big day for the Cubs. It's not every day that the team gets put up for sale AND the Cardinals have the worst record in MLB!

Wasn't Mark Cuban looking for a baseball team to buy?

He's made no secret of his desire to buy the Pirates. He's pretty consistently denied/no commented any interest in the Cubs.

1. A lot of money.
2. Not a chance.
3. Honestly, this scares the [censored] out of me. Too many good sports teams have been driven into the ground my awful owners (Bidwill/Wirtz FTW?) although there's not much worse the Cubs could do.

Wouldn't this like, destroy the franchise? Don't people go to cubs games just to see wrigley field/get the whole wrigley beer and bums experience? I know it's the only reason I would ever consider going to a game there.

The Cubs existed before Wrigley and will exist after it is gone. That said, it would be foolish to think that it isn't a large part of why people travel from around the world to see a game at the Friendly Confines.

Yeah, they might exist, but the only way I think people would come to the games anywhere near the numbers they do now w/o wrigley is if the Cubs started winning. I am not confident they will ever be able to do this despite recent efforts.

Obviously I disagree, but why do you feel that it is not possible to ever have a winning team in Cubs uniforms?
