Default KK\'s vs 79s flop: 39J rainbow : wot m i dn rong?

what is so wrong about my play here that makes calling an all in acceptable for the 79s??? Is this guy just trying to get lucky or what? I am consistently finding myself going down to underdog hands such as this. Should I have been thinking about folding my KK's or just going stronger preflop?

Your flop bet should be much smaller (between 1/2 and full pot-sized), since you want worse hands to call.

Also, use a hand-history converter when you post a hand.
Also, don't post results in your title or in the post.
Also, don't be results-oriented. You got all the money in as a big favorite so your job is done.

Thanks for your advice Proofrock. Guess I just saw those KK's as a cert on that flop. I'll try not to post results in title etc..

Say I went pot sze on flop then the turn came as it did Q now the draw possibilities are very strong. If I check or bet small hes gonna go in on me if he didn't on the flop with my KK's im gonna be forced to fold a bluff, aren't I?

If you pot the flop he has like 500 left and the pot's close to 1500, right? You can't fold any turn if he calls the flop.

If you pot the flop you bet around t450. One caller makes the pot t1350. The queen only completes one draw but improves a lot of drawing hands to hands you still beat (e.g., QT,KQ,AQ have improved but are still pretty far behind KK with only 1 card to come). You're a significant favorite over the range of hands that Villain(s) likely have, so getting all-in on the turn is profitable.

Basically, once you get to the turn all of your chips are going in. If he bluffs, great! If he gets all-in with QT or 97, great!

In general, you don't *want* Villains to fold hands that you're way ahead of -- you want to entice them to put more money into the pot than is profitable for them.

In your hand you accomplished that goal, although you gave Villain every excuse to fold. You will find the aggregate results to be more profitable, I think, if you bet less on the flop, but still enough that Villain can't profitably call.

BBV is over there, but anyway...

You should write 100x "I want hands that are behind to call me." Then you should learn to believe it.

5BB from the button preflop is a little unusual. I prefer to raise 3BB with almost every button hand when I have room in my stack as it makes future steals cheaper. You have a good hand in position, unless you feel varying your play is necessary here.

You horribly overbet the flop. There's 450 in there and you bet 4 or 5 times that. WTF? Except against complete morons who are convinced that this is a bluff, you're giving away lots of chips (you will only get called by a set, all the dozens fishy hands that you are CRUSHING right now will be sensible enough to fold). You want your opponents to put their money in when their equity doesn't justify it.

I suggest betting pot on the flop and call any all in (pot any turn if they just call.

Yeah, with the one limper, I think 120 is the most I'd go preflop (4x BB). After that, your all in push is a gigantic overbet. You should bet about 1/2-3/4 the pot to keep nines or jacks in the hand. Remember, you're about 80/20 favorite to win this hand at this point. You should be overjoyed to get all his money in like this. And even if you lose, you still have about 1700 in chips and the blinds at 15/30. You're not dead by any means. Remember, if you're getting money in as a favorite every time, the results in the short term don't matter.
