How unethical/immoral is this?
I work at a store that I will not name, for obvious reasons. We constantly throw out perfectly good items for one reason or another(DVDs, food, drinks, etc.)
The food and drinks are often past their expiration date, but aren't "bad" by any means(for the most part...I'm not talking about week-old milk) Anyways, sometimes when my fellow employees and I are supposed to throw all this stuff away, we will put the food or whatever it may be in our cars and keep it for ourselves, rather than throwing perfectly good items out. So how bad is this, in your eyes? |

Re: How unethical is this?
In the case of food, I think you can make a decent argument that throwing it out would be more unethical than what you're doing. It certainly doesn't seem bad to me.

I don't think it's unethical or immoral at all.

So obviously someone out there has a problem with it. |

It is trash - what is wrong with taking it for yourself??
I don't see the dilemma. |

Re: How unethical/immoral is this?
Should it matter how unethical/immoral something is or just that it is unethical/immoral?

Compared to saving drowning babies and curing cancer, this is pretty unethical.

I had some friends who worked at Pier 1. Any time they wanted something from the store they'd chip the paint on it or something then show the manager so it got declared unsellable so they could take it home. |
