I think the river bet is mandatory.

i have 220 villain has me covered. villains image was similar to mine. i had not played with him before, so i have no stats at the time.

preflop:

villain calls UTG, fold to me on the button, i make it 10 with Kh8h.

flop:

QQ9r ($23)

villain checks, i bet 18, villain calls [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

turn:

Q(s)Q9r T(s)

villain checks, i bet $35, villain calls (wtf [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img])

River: another 9

villain checks, i push [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

But if he has a Q you're toast.

Check behind is a loser for sure. With this line I think pushing is mandatory.

i was more than fairly sure he didn't have a Q here. As I said he was playing straightforward and saw that I was as well.

I pretty much NEVER slow play anything. Yes this is how I woud play it against most people. .....bet...bet...bet...

I was, however, unsure about the size of my river bet.

He expects a typical player to slowplaay trips. You, however, are not a typical player, so you would not have slowplayed the flop or turn.
