You\'re the Floor -- What\'s the ruling.
The turn has been dealt, all betting complete.
Dealer burns the top card. Begins to deal the river, and as he's doing so, the river card catches on the card protector. The stub flies from his hand, and falls face up on the table. So, there's chips in the pot, cards face up on the table, and the River Card in the Dealer's hand. He immediately calls you -- the Floor. What's the ruling? (Actual situation from 4-8 at Canterbury last night, btw -- I'll post the actual ruling later today).

How many players are still in the hand? No stub cards mixed w/ replaced the board cards? Backing up the action doesn't seem realistic. As long as the stub is still on the table I would guess they say the cards are exposed and take a look. Perhaps re-establish the stub once all players have had a fair chance to look at it. The players would continue with betting and go to showdown. With that said, some players will have an advantage and will know what specific card(s) to look for in relation to the board. In my experience with FUBARed hands, a lot of players check-it-down. Nevertheless, this could dramatically change the feel of the table. Please don't say the floor skipped to showdown.

4 players in the pot. Button, the blinds and UTG, who was all in-pre flop.
The cards of all of the players are protected and not mixed in with the stub. The 4 cards that have been dealt so far also are clearly identifiable and haven't been mixed in with the stub. The river card is in the dealer's hand, and is also, therefore clearly identifiable.

[/ QUOTE ] No, I think that IS the problem here: so many cards have been exposed. If only the one was exposed, it would be a much more cut and dry situation, or at least a bit more typical-a single card gets exposed at least once a night at my local casino even when people are careful, mistakes happen.

"There are exposed cards. Everyone take ten seconds to look at them. OK, dealer, sweep the stub together." Announce any cards still exposed to the table, turn the stub back over, and put out the river. Everyone gets the same amount of time to absorb the information. It's not totally fair, but it seems better than a misdeal.

[/ QUOTE ] ummmm, 20 cards had been dealt to players, 3 burn cards, 4 on the board and one in the dealer's hand -- so the stub had 24 cards. They were scattered face up along the table, some fully exposed, some partially covered by other cards. You probably could identify at least 18-20 of them.
