Droppin 5 BB in the first orbit
I am on an bad downswing right now. It seems like after the first orbit I am always down 5-10 BB and trying to crawl back. This is in limit HE.
In no-limit, there has just been a myriad of bad beats but that happens. Then I got to thinking that I am much more disciplined at protecting my stack (when ahead), then I am at clawing back. I think that I have uncovered a leak and want to know if anyone else has had this problem in the past (or am I just running bad and over thinking things) |

Re: Droppin 5 BB in the first orbit
To start with, you shouldn't be thinking about "protecting your stack" or "crawling back". Every hand you start, you are standing quitte. The results of former hands do not matter. When in a hand, you should not base your decisions on how much you are ahead or behind. There is your leak.

I also saw an other post of you in the SSNL forum. If you are wondering whether you should call a shove or not when you have the nuts on the river.. well, that is a serious leak too

The actually hand paired the board on the river. Like I said it was a loooooong session |

Re: Droppin 5 BB in the first orbit
Its just one long game with no start and no end, and as soon as you start thinking ' i am up/down/sideways/need to get up more chips' I think you are starting to tilt, whether you know it or not

Re: Droppin 5 BB in the first orbit
You are tilting as soon as you say to yourself "I need to crawl back".
In most cases of Limit HE, your stack size is irrelevent to your play. In NL, your stack size and others stacks are only relevent to your bet sizing. |

I was posting here on the psychology aspect of the question. There is a separate forum for Poker Theory were you can skewer me. Poker Theory rewording: "In NL, your stack size and others stacks are only relevent to your bet sizing AND potential implied odds AND moving all-in AND your level of aggression/tightness AND the blind levels AND NOT whether you are down or up for the session." |

Re: Droppin 5 BB in the first orbit
you have definitely discovered a leak. most people play better when they are winning than when they are losing. that is part of what makes poker such a streaky game. if you are able to realize this and make yourself immune to the tendency, you will be a better player.
