Blind vs blind. 3-bet bluff river.
PokerStars Game, 6-handed, I'm in the SB with Qh 3h. Folded to me, I raise, BB calls.
BB is 22.9%-16.9%-1.3-42.0% (VPIP, PFR, AF, WTSD) in 83 hands. Flop: Js 5h Ks I bet, he calls. Turn: 3s I check, he bets, i call. River: 5s I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, he folds. I have doubts in muy turn line. Now I have a pair, and I don't want to get raised, because a raise can mean a made hand or a semibluff with a spade, or some other crap. It's standard to check-call in that situation or it's better to continue betting? or some other line? And in that river, do you think it's worth a bluff donk bet in a 4-flush board? Do you think people can fold a better hand than mine? Comments on all streets are appreciated. |

It worked here, but I think this play is -EV long run. Just my 2 cents.

I just c/f the turn. Yeah you made a pair but its a bad pair and it completes the flush draw. It's unlikely to be good by the river

Re: Blind vs blind. 3-bet bluff river.
check call the river. bet/3bet here as a bluff is only going to work if you have some serious reads on this river his play looks so much like a K that's paying off.
save this for when you have the 5 |

Re: Blind vs blind. 3-bet bluff river.
What are you thinking when you bet the river? Is it for value? Are you hoping for him to raise so you can bluff 3 bet? It seems to me to be completely random and pointless ohterwise, cause you have a showdownable hand
I like the turn check call, I would check the river again and either fold or call depeninding on how well I know the player. (if i don't know him at all I call) |

also like to add i like the turn check/call as well. betting gets nothing done we either get raised and have to fold or get a worse hand to fold

Re: Blind vs blind. 3-bet bluff river.
Well, now I think about that, my line of betting the river wasn't very good. I thought it was a bluff, but it's very difficult to fold a better hand, I think it's much better to check-call to try catch a bluff. Or perhaps check-fold?
If I bet, he can have these hands: 1) High spade or full house: he's going to raise me and is never going to fold 2) Low spade: he's going to call me for sure 3) A 5 or a K: he's going to call me for sure 4) A J: he is usually calling 5) A pair of threes, like me. Perhaps I can bluff out this hand. 6) A pocket pair, 44 for example. Perhaps I can bluff out this hand, but is unlikely because he not 3-betted me preflop. 7) A total bluff. Versus a total bluff there is no point in bluffing, unless we know he's going to bluff-raise us, because we gain one extra-bet (if the raise is not with a high spade, of course). So it's true, betting is nearly pointless. |
