What to tell a friend?
In the last year 2 of my best friends and myself have jumped fairly deep into the online poker world (considerably less for all of us since school started again). This however isnt the issue. the issue is, one of these friends has probably lost a combination of over 3000 dollars, most of which came in 50-100 buy in form on full tilt. Imagine how many times he has busted to total that up. Me n 2nd buddy are by no means great, but were both up slightly overall, and this other kid is killin himself. Hes got no money in his bank account now and he owes someone 400 bucks. Weve tried tellin him he needs to stop but he kinda takes it as a joke. Were seriously concerned though, hes too proud to really listen when we tell him to stop, but hes ruining himself. Any ideas on what we could do?

Re: What to tell a friend?
He needs to live his own life just as you and your friends are living yours. You can 'tell him' all you want, but he will not change his thinking until 'he' is ready to.
In the mean time, consider any money you lend/lent him a gift, as you will probably never see it back again. |

Re: What to tell a friend?
Reflective listening can sometimes open someone's mind up to advice.

[/ QUOTE ] Please make sure he doesn't take a summer internship with any Republican congressmen. Otherwise, he might end up as a poster child for why the UIGEA shouldn't be repealed. Don't loan him ANY money. If he doesn't have poker tracker, you could buy him PT and an HUD for his birthday so he can actcually see the losses in PokerGrapher. It's hard to delude yourself if the red line goes down, down, down. If he's really ruining his life, you might consider getting his friends and family to do an intervention and get him into GA. That would be extreme, but there are some people that need it. |

Re: What to tell a friend?
Yes, teaching him to play poker isn't such a bad idea.
If that doesn't work, keep on telling him he's got to stop. If he doesn't listen, tell him again. And again. Sure, he has to live his own life, but you're not much of a friend if you see him making a serious mistake and don't say anything. |
