Best PLO Book for Beginner
I am a NL Hold Em player but know the basics of Omaha...like suited aces are good, what wraps are, etc. What's the best book for someone like me to learn the game of PLO? Thanks guys.

Re: Best PLO Book for Beginner
I thought the SS2 chapter was a little weak. In fact, I think it's the worst chapter in the book. Very scant and at times ambiguous. "Omaha Poker" by Bob Ciaffone is a GREAT starter book. At only 120 pages, it's very concise and well written. Once you're done with that, read "Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha" by Rolf Slotboom. Very nice detail and analysis. |

Re: Best PLO Book for Beginner
I just got Rolf Slotboom's Secrets of Professional PLO. It's got a lot of good information related to online and live strategy.

Re: Best PLO Book for Beginner
Although I might get flamed for this, I recommend, in addition to the above mentioned, read TJ Cloutier's Championship series book on omaha. He plays like a nit and his advice is to dump hands far too frequently when the board gets scary but I think when you start at the lowest stakes you can be nitty and just get real solid with reading boards and counting outs before considering the more complex semi-bluff characteristics of plo. It's better to err on the side of caution in my opinion when first learning a game otherwise a game like plo can eat your bankroll very quickly

There is way too much misleading information in Ciaffone and Slotboom's books for me to really think they are good. TJ Cloutier is more like a beginner's handbook on how to not lose your bankroll on the first night. |
