Re: Creative ways of finding home games?
"creative" ways?
As in like using construction paper to make a big sign to put in front of your house? Or using origami to find a local home game? Or paper mache a big animal and paint something on it? Or scrapbooking something with frilly borders? Or like finding a muse and sketching your own home game using charcoal or watercolors? I'm honestly confused about what kind of creativity you're in need of here... Maybe you just need some friends. |

Hire a biplane to trail a banner.
Learn semaphore and stand by a lighthouse. Pose as a telemarketer and start wardialing. |

How to find players
1. Find people who enjoy studying literature. Maybe crash a book club or take a university class in Post-Modern Literary Theory. You'll be surprised how into poker those types are. And they're not bad -- they're excellent bluffers. That shouldn't be surprising, though, seeing how they believe "truth" is a mere social construction....
Surprisingly, the math/stats/engineer types aren't as much into it. Probably because they believe in truth. And because they realize they can make more money by graduating sooner and getting a real job... 2. Be a social butterfly and good networker. Recruit friends of friends via MySpace or a friend's BBQ. Talk about poker in passing, and see if they bite. 3. Try meeting people on Internet dating sites. Ask people out on a date, and see how into "games" they are. The next "date" will be at your tourney, which may include previous "dates". (Make them go Dutch on the buy-in, but exempt them from BYOB rules... for the first night only, of course.) This is how I got one of my regulars (This is true!). 4. Call up some old ex-girlfriends/boyfriends that you are on good terms with. If he/she is exceptionally bad at cards, offer to recind the restraining order, or at least not enforce it. Also, tell them they can invite their current partner, also. [I'm totally serious about all these points.] 5. Finally, if you find people who are looking for a home game, tell them that rather than doing a Texas Hold'em tourney, you will instead hold a 7-Card Stud Eight-Or-Better game. That'll get them stampeding to your kitchen table.... [I'm obviously NOT serious about this one, though.] Good luck, -diz |

Re: Creative ways of finding home games?
If you don't have a local casino to network at, lots of bars have NLHE tourneys. Many of the participants will also have or know of poker games. Just mention in passing that you're looking for one (and if you purposely play badly in the tourney it might be +EV to you getting invited.... heh).
