Default Top two on straight/two flush board, c/r gets 3 bet, best line?

Villain and I just started playing. I have little history with him, but he seems like a pretty tight, alright player. I don't really know what to put him on once he 3-bets the flop, and I do not know what pays me off that I beat (Besides worse two pair).

No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $2/$4
3 players
Converter

Stack sizes:
Button: $109.10
Hero: $488.00
BB: $501.60

Pre-flop: (3 players) Hero is SB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
Button folds, Hero calls, <font color="#cc0000">BB raises to $14</font>, Hero calls.

Flop: 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($28, 2 players)
Hero checks, <font color="#cc0000">BB bets $14</font>, <font color="#cc0000">Hero raises to $34</font>, <font color="#cc0000">BB raises to $84</font>, <font color="#cc0000">Hero </font>

This hand just felt awkward for me, just because I almost never get 3 bet, and I rarely, if ever, 4 bet myself... especially HU.

I did not really know a great 4-ball amount, or what to think of his abnormally small 3-bet on the flop.

Believe me, I know the c/r sucks. I had been doing it a lot on these boards, but this one was really really bad.

Given the mistake, where do you go from here

I don't see how you can't shove here. The only hands that beat you that are realistically in his range are 77, 88, 99, and J10s.

thats a lot of freaking hands. If you dont know where you are isnt it more than reasonable to think he might have one after a 3 bet?

Okay, so villain' range is like any pair 77++, AKhh, 10J....

I would not re-raise in this situation... best off folding or check/calling, and then check/folding to large turn bet.

what about calling the 3 bet and then betting out on a non-heart turn? It seems like his range is heavilyi weighted towards 77, j10, but there's also things like a6h, a10h, axh etc.

His range will be narrowed heavily if the turn is a blank, and that will allow you to play more optimally. At that point, if he pushes and you have enough history of his play to determine that it's not a draw, then i think it's a clear fold.

Then again, if he's tricky, this is a really tough spot. Fold if you don't like tough decisions. Since it's only three handed, it's a pretty tough spot.

Actually, it was only HU, third guy was sitting out.

I am pretty sure that this, along with insane monkey tilt, drove me to play this hand very poorly.
