Default Writing Competition: Discussion

Okay, this is the thread to discuss the stories submitted, general writing notes and so on.

Here are the submissions

Remember, the contest is now open for 3 weeks, ending on Friday 13th April, and voting will then take place for 4 days.

There is a current prize for the winner for $150, and I stress this is competition is not endorsed by 2+2, and is a private affair between members.

Disappointed that I had to edit it to make sure it got a PG rating.

There's a useful thread on 'writing tips' in the El Diablo forum: here

I welcome tips in this thread too!

fyodor

I love the fusion of H.P.Lovecraft and Penthouse Pages. My only suggestion would be really, really, really go for it at the Lovecraft.

Try staying up all night driking Absinthe and rewrite the last bit...

Have never read any Lovecraft but when I worked in the merchant marine many years ago I used to read the Penthouse letters aloud to some other guys in the crew. I was the best reader.

Several years ago an acquaintance of mine was going to do a sci-fi e-zine for distribution on cd. I wrote him a story for his first edition and then he asked me to do another. I had started it but then he gave up on his plans so I just left off with it. Yesterday when I saw the writing thread I dug it out and finished it up just for the hell of it.

My days of hallucinogens are safely behind me now.

that writing thread in el d has some excellent stuff in it.

we really should have picked a theme and written new stories. it's much more interesting to see how different people approach the same subject.

posting old stories isn't really in the spirit of the contest, either. oh well...

Well, we'll see how this goes. If it works out okay, maybe we can do that another time.

I was thinking that too. We should all take a stab at the problem of fyodor's story - a missing week. That could be fun.
