4/8 limit vs 6/12.
Stepped up my game in Vegas to 4/8. Played at the Venetian, Wynn, Rio, etc. Did not lose once. I actually felt it was relatively easy. 4/8 actually felt like playing 2/4 or 3/6. I avg. $50-100 every time I played. I also didn't sit down at the table for an hour or two. More like 3-6 hours. I only felt a challenge when I went up to 8/16 at the Wynn. However, I was extermely gassed from poker at that point playing 8/16 and the table was very shorthanded. These guys were rough though and I was burned out, hahaha. Played at the Rio until 3:30 am the day before. Is there a big difference between 4/8 and 6/12 or 6/12 and 8/16? How much stronger is the competition too at 6/12. What do you recommend as the buy in? I also play at Foxwoods and A.C. so let me know the casinos that are good to play 6/12 at.

6/12 is a whole different game than 4/8

Re: 4/8 limit vs 6/12.
Getty can you elaborate? When playing 6/12 limit what reading to you recommend? Middle Limit Hold'em by Bob C.? I think I can step it up. Also have to state that I've been playing for a while now. Usually 4-5 times a week for 3-5 hours a day during the week. Weekends it depends on how I feel. Have logged in more than 30k hands on 3 different websites. Willing to make the step. However, not as fast as I did three days ago at the Wynn.

Slow down Mario Andretti! Play some 4.50/9.00 and 5/10 before making that big leap.

Carlson, I think you need to elaborate. What game are you playing and where. The 6/12 in Southern California might bear scant resemblance to the same game in AC.

Re: 4/8 limit vs 6/12.
My stock advice - if you want to play the bigger game and your bankroll can afford the risk, try it. Your ability to make rent/mortgage shouldn't be riding on a 4/8 or 6/12 session.
If you feel uncomfortable and/or out of your league, rack up and change games to your normal limits. More often than not, you're perfectly fine in the slightly bigger game once you see how it plays. |

Re: 4/8 limit vs 6/12.
So you believe a step up to 5/10 will be helpful versus going up to 6/12? With 5/10 I'll be looking at a $150-200 buy in correct? I didn't play 6/12 yet. I tried 8/16 at the Wynn in Las Vegas, NV and it wasn't bad at first, but I got eaten up once the table went shorthanded, which really upset me. Should have bounced but I was so dam tired and frustrated. I tried taking on the people and getting revenge, which is a bad mistake. But Im willing to slow it down a bit and try 5/10. If I were to try 6/12 it would be at Foxwoods in CT, and the Borgata or Trop in AC.

Re: 4/8 limit vs 6/12.
foxwoods only has 4/8, 5/10 (kill), and 10/20. the 5/10 varies based on your tables, sometimes it a nitfest, other times and pretty much always on the weekends its as soft as 4/8. Also, even when it is a nitfest its not remotely tough.

Re: 4/8 limit vs 6/12.
5/10 vs 6/12 is same players, different casino. Doesn't really matter.

Re: 4/8 limit vs 6/12.
It's kind of a problem for Vegas games because when you are ready to step up from 4/8 you pretty much have to go to 8/16 because 6/12 just doesn't seem to be found in Vegas much anymore.
You may find 6/12 at very busy times at Mirage, Caesars and MGM but if not you will have to do the more commonly found 8/16 at Bellagio, Wynn and Venetian. |
