What to buy for international travel

My parents are taking a 3 week trip to Europe this summer and I would like to buy them a few things before their trip. I have never traveled internationally and neither have my parents. Someone has told me (and them) to buy a really nice pair of walking shoes and I think they have already purchases those. But I'm not sure what else they might need.

For those of you who have traveled internationally, give me some ideas of things they should have that I could buy for them. Thanks.

They are traveling mainly between Italy, Slovenia and Germany.
