Tethered Cell Phone Won\'t Allow PokerStars or FTP Access?
I posted this in software and got no responses. Please forgive if this is inappropriate for this forum:
Hi, www.junefabrics.com has this great software called PDAnet which allows me to tether my mobile phone to my laptop and create a fairly fast connection to the web. It's kind of like turning your phone into a Sprint Aircard. Here's the problem -- I can access CryptoLogic Sun Poker and play to my hearts content with this setup (well I could before it got illegaler and Sun cut me off!) BUT I can't seem to access PokerStars or FTP with the same setup. Any ideas why that might be? I can ping the www's for both sites just fine -- just can't connect to their poker servers... Help if you can! Chips P.S. this is all just hypothetical since I don't play poker online or anything... |

Get a packet capture, wireshark is free. Not sure if you can post here or not. PM me if you need someone to read it.

Re: Tethered Cell Phone Won\'t Allow PokerStars or FTP Access?
guessing because the poker sites use specific ports that your phone's internet plan doesn't cover? that is what I assume it would be, but I am not an expert on phone internet. you can make the clients use different ports though if that is the problem.

[/ QUOTE ] Good guess -- I agree. So I tried to open the Pokerstars.ini file to change the config -- it looks binary. Sorry to be thick, but how do you make the client use a different port? |

[/ QUOTE ] I do not know off the top of my head - but I know you must add lines to an ini file. Someone might post here that knows...but I know it has been posted in the forums before, so try searching. Also, you can just email stars support and ask them - they will give you directions on how to change the port. |

Thank you gold. I've done some searching here to no avail, but I also have an email in with PS support. If I get a reasonable answer, I'll post it here for others in case they need the same info...

[/ QUOTE ] np...but I found it - [ QUOTE ] Hello, Thank you for writing us and allowing us to be of assistance. If your system accesses the Internet through a proxy server, you will need to make PokerStars' software aware of it by adding two lines to your USER.INI file, which is a configuration file stored in the PokerStars directory. Here is how the two sections should look after your modifications: [Connect] userport=443 httpproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234 httpsproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234 [ConnectR] httpproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234 httpsproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234 host0=66.212.233.228 port0=443 weight0=3 host1=66.212.233.226 port1=443 weight1=3 host2=66.212.235.34 port2=443 weight2=1 host2=66.212.235.35 port2=443 weight2=1 You must substitute the name of your proxy server and its port number above. For example, if your company's proxy server is proxy.corporation.com and runs on port 8080, you would use the lines: httpproxy=proxy.corporation.com:8080 httpsproxy=proxy.corporation.com:8080 Ask your systems administrator if you are unsure of your proxy server settings or are unsure whether your company uses a proxy server.
