Truly Historic Run by Higher Seeds ...almost 30-1 against
With regard to the lack of upsets by the 12-16 seeds, we are witnessing approximately a once in 30-year event here. Using the historical average from wiki:
[/ QUOTE ]Since the inception of the 64-team tournament in 1985 each seed # has played a total of 92 first-round games. 1. The #1 seed has beaten the #16 seed all 92 times (100%). 2. The #2 seed has beaten the #15 seed 88 times (96%). 3. The #3 seed has beaten the #14 seed 77 times (84%). 4. The #4 team has beaten the #13 seed 74 times (80%). 5. The #5 seed has beaten the #12 seed 63 times (68%). [/ QUOTE ] Here's the math: 100% 100% 100% 100% 96% 96% 96% 96% 84% 84% 84% 84% 80% 80% 80% 80% 68% 68% 68% 68% 3.703374869559490% Just in case someone out there is mathematically-challenged, let me break it down for you: crappiest first-round in a generation. |

but it will make for a better second round and sweet 16
those cinderella runs, while cool in the first round, typically ruin the second round |

I'm pretty sure that the decreased upsetting has something to do with the overall decline in quality of play. Compare with the general favorite-dominance in the women's bracket, etc.

Other way around, actually. By forcing everyone to go to college the NBA has given big schools a talent infusion. Creighton wasn't losing a lot of commits to the pros, but UNC and OSU would be a fair bit worse if the NBA still drafted 18 year olds.

This rule is going to crush mid major college basketball. Ken |
