Default Official MARCH MADNESS - Vegas

So what is the action like in the poker rooms for March Madness? This is the first time in three years that I'm not there so I am seriously missing it and know it's probably real good.
Any early reports?

I haven't noticed anything different from any other time, but I've only played at the Wynn. There definitely was a lack of drunkenness in the room.

Yes, the rooms are packed. Every table full at Wynn and Caesars. Never seen that before. Part of the reason at Caesars is the back room is converted into VIP NCAA viewing, but I still have never seen it as busy. Level of play is not any different though. It's almost like all the players came in just for poker, because they are almost always sober and hardly talk hoops.

I noticed that, too. Inside the poker rooms, it's like nothing else is going on in the world. The only exception is when the sportsbook is close and Duke is being knocked off by VCU. Then they looked up for a moment, then went right back to the poker.

Not sure exactly what this means, honestly. I'd like to see it debated.

I've been in about 8 rooms so far this weekend. Here are my observation. Some of the smaller touristy type rooms are attracting the gambling/sports betting crowd, not the higher end places. Those are busy anyways.

South Point: lots of hotel guests gambling it up at 2/4 limit and 1/2 NL. Saw about 2x as many tables as normal going late at night.

Flamingo: normal middle aged crowd, nothing noteworth.

O'sheas (yeah I know and I didn't play, just walked in). No games going except a $40 sng by the front door to the casino with about 100 drunk early 20somethings watching it because it's the game on tv.

Paris: New room is destined for failure. If you aren't actively searching high and low, you aren't going to find it. Nothing was really going except a 2/4 or 3/6 game.

Aladdin: Insanely packed. They put these MASSIVE projection TV's up against the back wall on the second floor near the bar with about 400 chairs and tons of tables. Their poker room is temporary up there but was just jammed full of 3/6, 1/2 Nl and 2/5 NL games. New room opens April 2-4th sometime in there FINALLY.

Ballys: normal gamble fest that it always is. Tons of NCAA type gear/hats/ect... found in there too

GVR: nothing different than normal, but then again, it's a locals casino with like 600 rooms for the middle aged crowd. Not really the basketball crowd, but there were some.

Harrahs: Poker room is way busy the last 3 days with generally all but one of the tables going with 3/6 and NL1/2 and sometimes a single 2/5. They've cancelled most (all?) of the daily tourneys because they've got all the tables and dealers busy doing cash games.

Mostly the play is pretty decent and fairly tight (for 1/2). Now and then there's a wacky table going, but they don't seem to last long. Mostly it's 6 or 7 people who aren't totally stupid all biding their time trying to snag chips from the 2 or 3 idjits. The boys are buying in for $100 and playing like it's tomorrow's lunch money--they really don't want to give it up.

Entertaining interlude... Tonight a recent arrival to the table has stayed with a hand to the river, betting at each street. Pot has about $150ish and he bets $100 (leaving him with $20). The calling-station fish at the table goes into the tank for a couple minutes (the recent arrival has no way to know that the calling station thinks ace-high is nearly as good as the nuts--recent arrival hasn't seen this). Eventually calling station grabs $100 and sets it out. As calling station is reaching to flip his cards over the kid who bet says "good hand, you got it" and bullet mucks his cards. JUST as he's letting go he sees the calling station turn over T3 for 2nd pair, no kicker. His expression and shriek of agony was something special--apparently he had a pair of tens with no kicker beat. He was emotionally stomped by that and practically fell out of his chair. He grabbed his last chips and cell phone and almost ran from the table.

An hour later, he comes back and he has fire in his eyes. Within 20 minutes he gets into it with the calling station again and goes all in outta the blue with little in the pot holding K4 on a KQJXX board... sorry, just becausing he's a fish doesn't mean the calling station can't have two pair. Again, a quick exit, this time without any shriek of agony.

Friday, I finished up my 100 hours this month in the Orleans poker room (okay, I have 90+ hours in March but enough for the 80 needed for the $100,000 freeroll for March/April).

Anyway, Friday night at 2:00 am they (Orleans poker room) had 15 cash games going. Kind of cool for that time of the night!

The cocktail girl was bringing me 3 beers at a time (YMMV), the deck was hitting me in the face and fun was had by all.

Later in the week, I think I'll give the "V" a look.

Happy Pokering,

Howard

I think I had enough drinks for the whole room on Friday night/Saturday morning.
