Default New computer - Anti-Virus/Internet Settings slowing things down?

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron Laptop with Norton Internet Security Pre-installed.

A few web pages are running really slow - especially when scrolling down the page. I think that I need to change some of the settings and am not sure where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I can't help you with this because not enough info. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but get rid of Norton. I think they designed it to slow your machine down, and every 30 seconds pop something up to tell you what a great job it's doing ... until you get a virus.

I use Eset NOD32 and Windows Firewall and my PC is bulletproof.

I've worked on a few friends computers, and I always get the m to use NOD32, and it always finds 30 odd viruses that Norton missed.

I know a few people on here will back me up.

Good luck.

Brasilstu makes some good points. Unfortunately we don't know enough about what is going on to solve the problem.

I totally agree that Norton needs to go. I am by nature, not a "brand basher". I drive a Chevrolet but have no problems with Ford and Dodge. You get the idea. That being said Norton (and McAfee) is the one place I make an exception. Not only are they unreliable, the designers goal seems to be to take total control over your pc, use as much system resources as possible and then inundate you with "security" pop-up messages. I also have a beef with both companies because they make uninstalling their product as difficult as possible. You will find very few people on this forum or any other knowledgeable tech forum you really like Norton or McAfee.

That being said, my advice would be start by downloading a free and trusted antivirus application. I don't know much about NOD32 but I've never heard anything bad about it. There is a FAQ on this forum that might help. AVG and Avast seem to be forum favorites I think. AVG is my pick, but only because that is what I'm used to and comfortable with. You would need to uninstall everything related to Norton before installing any new antivirus software because they will likely conflict with each other.

I know that doesn't answer your question but it's a start. I honestly don't know if Norton is the reason for your problems though. Maybe a more thorough definition with links to the pages in question would help. Just a thought.

Good luck

Just do a Ctrl/Alt/Del and stop all the norton/symantec process' ... that will be proof enough for you.
AVG Free edition is a great product
