Default HDMI audio question.

For some reason I can only get video and no audio using an HDMI connection from my time warner cable box. However my television has an analog audio input associated with the hdmi input which allows me to use two separate cables in order to use the hdmi for video only while using standard analog audio cables.

My question is in regards to hooking this up to a surround sound system using a receiver that doesn't have any hdmi input. Am I able to keep my cable box hooked up directly to my television through the hdmi connection while running analog audio cables from the cables box to the reveiver in order to get surround sound?

You'll hear sound, but I'm not so sure it will be surround sound with just Red & White RCA cables.

I'd swtich to fiberoptic cables. Just wanted to make sure I could still use the HDMI for video.
