Default Calculating pot size?

I am not 100% sure where this post really should go but I am taking a shot here.

In my game last night the following occured and I was curious how it should be read.

One table tournament blinds @ 100 - 200 player A from middle position bumps it up to 600 (Having approx 5500 - 6000 in chips in front of him). Folds all around to the big blind who is short stacked. BB goes all in for his final 1250. Middle position thinks for a little bit and makes the call.

The hand went down and it was Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] -Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] for the bb and A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] -10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] for the middle position raiser. The A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] -10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] won when he hit an A on the flop. The big blind was extremely mad at the call and losing the hand. The players at the table agreed it was approx. 70% - 30% pre-flop and it was a marginal correct call either way.

What is the correct thinking 1) he is betting 1250 to win 2550 (2 to 1 odds) or 2) he is betting a 1250 to win a total of 3800 (3 to 1 odds)?

What are your thoughts?

Default Re: Calculating pot size?

In general , when a player re-raises btf , he has fold equity a certain percentage of the time . In this case , his fold equity is next to nothing since the middle position raiser is getting a nice bargain to see the flop at about 3:1 odds .

So if we can convince ourselves that the BB's fold equity is about 0 , then he's essentially getting (1250+300) : 1250 on his all in shove . (assume he has 1250 after the blinds )

Remember that he's betting 1250 to win 1550 from his opponent .

The BB shouldn't have been upset at this players call since his odds are too good !!

Default Re: Calculating pot size?

The MP caller was getting 3 to 1
$650 to win 2150 (the 300 in blinds, his orig 600, and the 1250 push) The money in the pot divided by the amount to call, his previous bet doesnt matter in figuring out the calling odds, its the same as if there were $600 in antes or whatever.

The all in player was getting like 1.4 to 1 just like Jay said.
