QQ capped preflop- bad river?
Capped preflop by villain, 48/17 and one of the reasons I am at this table.
I feel like I miss a lot of value with big hands like this, when I try to imagine what villain would play this way, and come up with AA, KK, QQ, and JJ- two of these beat me on the river. KK seems unlikely, as he should have raised on flop or turn. AA is a good candidate, but he got all passive on the flop and turn, and JJ would make some sense, and if so, he just sucked out on me. So my internal conflict is whether to check behind on the river, or bet, figuring that he calls with all the hands I am ahead of, but may raise if he made his straight. Even tho this situation doesnt come up that often, it is one that I find myself struggling with, because, on the one hand it is a BB, and if I am losing, that one bet might become two, since no way am I bet/folding here (my own personal leak). Bet this and it's not close. I think you are good here over 2/3 of the time. You have to call a raise.

I definitely bet the river and call a raise. I probably would not 3 bet the river.

Re: QQ capped preflop- bad river?
If the villain had AA, KK, QQ or TT you would have heard from him on the turn. Hand reading with someone who plays that many hands and raises that often is very difficult. The villain might have a J or JJ, but I would bet the river and call a raise. There are players who will take shots at tight players on the river with boards like this, if they think you might lay down top pair. A river raise could be a bluff, could mean 2 pair or it could be the straight.

Re: QQ capped preflop- bad river?
Unlike the other thread, this hand my sphincter puckered up so tight that I did check behind, fearing the various unlikely hands that would beat me AKs, JJ, AJ.
His passive play on the flop and the turn threw me off, and I thought he might have been a calling station with JJ or even AJ. Of course he had A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and MHIG, but because of his passive play, I couldnt convince myself that I was OK. So, I still suck, and can turn into a passive NIT, costing myself (most likely) a bet on the river. Thanks for the input, and I appreciate that you help to reinforce the idea of keeping the pressure on with big hands. Todd |

His play isn't that bad.
Edit: Although I have at least one raise going in here if I'm him. |
