Default I never do this but...

Villain is 23/16/2 over a large sample and pretty straight forward so I'm almost certain he wouldn't 3bet the turn here with anything worse than a Q. I figure this way I charge the FD, JT, AJ etc.

Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, BB calls.

Flop: (4.50 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">BB raises</font>, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.25 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">BB bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">BB 3-bets</font>, Hero folds.

Final Pot: 9.25 BB

I would just calldown and value bet the river if checked to. A bet is going in on the river the vast majority of the time so I don't see much point to the turn raise. I guess if you're certain he won't 3 bet the turn with a worse hand, and he'll calldown with worse hands you're risking nothing to win an extra bet. But he might sometimes fold a worse hand to the turn raise.

seriously. i don't see why everyone is trying to "get value from a draw" and thereby opening themselves up to getting 3bet.

A flush draw is going to charge themselves anyway. And any pair is "value betting" you, so you don't even lose value.

I can see some guys 3betting JT here, which is a nightmare, because now you are folding as a 3-1 favorite

any hand that is going to call your 3bet will bet the river too. and you're an underdog.

Even if your read is completely accurate and Villain has to have at least trips here once he 3-bets, the raise-fold costs more than it appears to since you have 4 outs against a flopped straight. Against KJ or J8, for instance, your hand is worth ~1 BB at the point where you folded. And while we should probably discount J8 somewhat, I'm thinking Villain is playing all 16 combos of KJ. (Edit: And, by the way, you also have four outs against 99.)

Plus, as others have pointed out, Villain is usually going to fire again on the river no matter what he has.
