Hypothetical - NBA All star added to NCAA team, win Championship?
I have a hypothetical question. For sake of orderly discussion this will be limited to only the teams that are in the field of 64 this year, not some random Div 1A school.
If you were to remove the best player from the NCAA team, and replace him with an NBA allstar, is that team almost a lock to win the NCAA Championship? I will provide the list of 2007 NBA All Stars below, and next to each name I will give my opinion on whether or not they would be a lock to win the tournament. I will list my "Locks" in order of supreme confidence - mild confidence. I will list my "Contenders" in order of most likely to win - least likely to win. West: Stone Cold Steve Austin Locks: Kobe Bryant – Lock Dirk Nowitzki - Lock Kevin Garnett - Lock Tracy McGrady - Lock Yao Ming – Lock Carmelo Anthony - Lock Tim Duncan – Lock Amare Stoudemire - Lock Ray Allen - Lock Allen Iverson - Lock Shawn Marion - Lock Contenders: Steve Nash – Contender Tony Parker – Contender Mehmet Okur - Contender Carlos Boozer - Contender Josh Howard - Contender East: Stone Cold Steve Austin Locks: LeBron James - Lock Dwyane Wade - Lock Gilbert Arenas - Lock Shaquille O'Neal - Lock Jermaine O'Neal - Lock Vince Carter – Lock Chris Bosh - Lock Dwight Howard - Lock Contenders: Chauncey Billups – Contender Joe Johnson – Contender Richard Hamilton - Contender Caron Butler - Contender Jason Kidd - Contender |

How is the list bad, at least point out players that you think are not locks to win the championship.
Also, was Paul Pierce even an All Star? Wasn't he hurt for most of the year? |

pierce, gasol, iguodala, chris paul are all significantly better than rip hamilton by almost anyone's standards.
also...not having nash in the top bracket makes me want to throw up. what would he shoot from the college 3? like 70 percent? |

Re: Hypothetical - NBA All star added to NCAA team, win Championship?
nash right now would score half a hundred on somebody and have about 40 assists.
i'm pretty sure any of these guys would mean a guaranteed championship in the NCAAs, except maybe for the 13-16 seeds from chump conferences. |

I'm currently thinking they'd all be locks.. 'cept maybe Okur.
Billups and JJ would definitely be locks. |

I think you are far overrating the effect it would have. Obviously if you did it with UCLA or Florida it would be pretty much a lock, but are you saying that if you replaced Raivio on Gonzaga with Nash, that they would be a lock to win the title? I would even go so far as to say replacing Tucker of Wisconsin with Carmelo, would not make the Badgers a lock. A favorite in every game they played, yes. But still very beatable by a top team.

I agree with the Steve Nash comment.
The locks I suggested were beacause they are dominant players at the NBA level, and can create their own offense all by themselves. That is the key. So yes, if Kobe was on Texas AM CC, they would win the Championship. |
