Default Push or wait for better spot

Here is a strategy question a very good MTT player and I had....In the nightly 150 on Stars in the money with 80 people left.....My friend who is playing just lost a coin flip from BB for most of his chips, next hand doubled up in SB......Now he has 3400 and blinds are 600-1200 40 ante (so basically nothing).....Folded to him on button he has T6o, push or fold??

One of us thinks he should push and would like to take this random hand vs another random hand most likely hd up even if a decent dog vs a hand like AJ or something was ok...but may not get a better spot....

The other one thinks, antes are low, chips multiply fast and have good chance of finding a hand that can win more often or even unimproved in next 7 hands and would rather play BB random hand then this one vs one opponent.

Thoughts?

I fold since OTB you have many hands to wait and esp with the 150s redic small antees you can wait and not have your stack severed even more.
