Bet the turn or just take the free card?
Game was playing very loose, so I took the flop after all of the limpers.
Do you bet the turn or take the free card? I'm approx. 20% to hit the flush, 5 players in the pot (meaning I'm contributing 20%), so my equity for a bet is about break-even. Re: Bet the turn or just take the free card?
With the flush being the only way you win, I take the free card. You are not getting called by all four and may get popped by a made hand. If you had top pair or better here (or maybe a broadway draw) I consider a bet.

Re: Bet the turn or just take the free card?
Betting as a pure value proposition is a loser. First of all, you only have seven clean outs (fewer if you consider the possibility of a straight flush, but we'll assume someone would have bet that draw). So your equity is probably somewhat less than 20%, though not hugely so.
But more important, you're assuming that everyone is going to call your bet. Even if you had 20% pot equity, having a couple of people fold would be enough to make this significantly -EV. There might be other reasons to bet (improved odds of stealing on the river, better implied odds by disguising your hand, less respect for you turn bets on other hands) but value isn't one. On the other hand, a raise on the flop might not have been a bad idea. But flat-calling so as not to drive SB and BB out seems OK too. |

I'd take the free card here since you're only going to get called or check-raised by made hands.
