Re: Trips vs turn shove
I dont hate it, its hard to put him on ahand that has you beat right now, he prob has a combodraw and with 1 card to come, good call.

Re: Trips vs turn shove
if villain tends to play passively, then I don't think you're ever in good shape vs his range when he takes this line. I expect a monster every single time.

Re: Trips vs turn shove
I think its a combo draw, and if he has a straight or 2pair then we still have outs, I call here a lot though. I dont think this is a set very often, what set is going to slowplay that flop?

Re: Trips vs turn shove
And what set shoves that turn? It does look a lot like a combo draw or someone overvaluing an overpair (maybe 99 or TT). It also looks like it could be someone with a better 4 than you afraid of the drawy board. Either way, you have to call here.

Re: Trips vs turn shove
Good. The only hand I'm really worried about is 57 or A4, tbh. I'd expect a small raise or just a call from a boat from this guy.

Re: Trips vs turn shove
I put the villain on a straight or a boat (probably a boat). This play is really common, and in lower stakes games, it can be quite profitable against opponents who haven't seen it before. When the board pairs, your opponent is assuming that you won't be capable of laying down a 4 or a straight. You'll also see this huge overbet in situations where the board is something like 789T...the overbettor will always have QJ here, assuming you are incapable of laying down a J.
The fact is that when you have trips with a low kicker, you will never win a big pot. You need to bet the turn and the river in these situations, but if your opponent raises, you need to muck. If you are in a big pot with trips and a bad kicker, you will pretty much always have the worst of it going in. By the way, I like how you played the hand all the way up until your call, though. Aggressive play in the cutoff and on the button takes down the money in the long run! May Your EV Always Be Positive! Tony Guerrera |
