Default Live 2-5NL top pair vs tricky lag opponent

Villan is a very lag regular who has the reputation amongst some of the regulars as being the best who plays there. It is a small poker room.

In the short while ive been at the table he has played a lot of hands but no raising preflop except for a min raise. He made a big bet once on the river vs someone who appeared weak on the river but showed one of the cards.

I have little experience vs villan but he one of the first hands I played he check raised me all in and showed a flush draw when I folded.

I start the hand with 319 villan covers.

I am on the button with AJo suits irrelevant.

Folds to villan in hijack who makes it 25.

I call. He says something to the affect of me trying to get revenge on him.

He bets 60 in the dark

Flop comes A 7 7 (52)

I call

He checks in the dark

Turn K to make A 7 7 (K) 172

I check behind

River J to make A 7 7 K (J) no flush 172

he asks how much I have i say 234 he bets 230.

So he raised big preflop for the first time all night and you cold-called with AJo? That's why this hand didn't go well for you.

Just to clarify ive only been at the table about 20 hands his one preflop raise was a strange one to 25 after someone else made it 15. It being folded to him I thought I was ahead of his range.

I still don't like the call preflop.

Flop and turn are okay, and river is close.

its about a coin flip he will have AA KK JJ about 50% of the time and nothing about the other half: little hints like " you are calling for revenge" usually points to a big hand...pick a better spot next time...
