Default How much weight does Gonzales have w/ Neteller, etc (Resignation talk)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070311/...ct_gonzales_dc

Saw on Yahoo! frontpage, there has started a push for U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign due to mass firings of federal prosecutors (my note: ones that didn't meet his "moral standards") and now abuse of the Patriot Act.

Does Gonzales set the tone for the U.S. government's priorities?

I read this story too and wondered the same thing. My initial reaction is that by dumping an evangelical AG like Gonzalez in favor of someone who isn't an anti-gambling zealot will probably mean a lot fewer arrests. The big conceivable problem I see is that with a shift in organization it may even further delay the Neteller situation.

Good question.

On a side note about the firings, Clinton walked into office and fired every single federal prosecutor in the US as his first official act. The reason was presumably that the attorneys had been appointed under G.H. Bush and he wiped the slate clean. GW did nothing like that. Maybe GW should have fired every single one of these guys on his first day in office just like Clinton did and there would be no talk of replacing Gonzales.

Just a little fact that some of the Dems might like to forget.

Here is a link....

I can't imagine firing Gonzales would have any positive effect on the NETeller case. Firing Garcia might -- too bad he didn't get in any Congressional hot water. But I agree with Moneyline: a change at the top would probably just mean more delays.

The feds definitely have a choice about how hard they want to push on which issues. Some issues, particularly those related to morality, are decided at the top. For instance, when Clinton and Reno came in, federal prosecutions for pornography and obsenity (other than child porn) stopped almost completely.

Without the perspective of someone inside the organization, it's difficult to say what has caused the focus on internet gambling. It could well be Gonzales that's driving a lot of this. The recent arrests seem to have started around 2005, after he came in to replace Ashcroft.

Don't hold your breath for his resignation. I'd put the odds at under 50%.

Can you provide a link to anything remotely credible about this? An "I hate the Clintons they're the debil" website isn't something I'm going to accept at face value.

If you are referring to my post, Google is your friend. This is a known fact that the drive-by media isn't going to report. They didn't make a big deal of it then and they won't dare mention it now. It doesn't fit into their liberal bias. So if you are looking for a CNN or CBS link, good luck. The other option is to deny history and then cry and demand Gonzales resign because a handful of US attorneys were fired under a Republican president. That's what the media and libs are doing.

Ugh, I'll do the research for you because I want to end this right here.

From the NY Times, I hope this is a liberal enough source for you..... NY Times Link

If the media reported this as they should, this current debate wouldn't even be going on.
