What is with people and alcohol?

It tastes bad, makes you loud, obnoxious and physically impaired, then you feel sick the next day.

So why does everyone I know feel the need to get wasted all weekend long? What release does it bring them? Is it just the cool thing to do? I truly don't understand it. The only positive thing I see about it is the incresed potential of getting laid, but that seems to be a rarity for most anyway.

Not to mention alcoholism, loss of brain cells and $200 nights at the bar, etc...
