Default Online Poker Needs To Be A Voting Issue

It would awesome to find out exactly what our representatives position is on online poker. They were clever by putting the new law into a Port Security thread so we can't really know who to support in upcoming elections. Here's my plan for how we can get them to change the law.

1. We need to know and post how each member of the House,Senate, and potential presidential candiates would vote in relation to online poker. This would mean that members from 2 plus 2 in different regions would have to contact their representatives and post their responses to their positions on online poker.

2. Once we know this information the goal should be to make this a voting issue by asking people to sign petitions saying they won't reelect candidates who have a position against online poker. The PPA has 200,000 members and there are 70 million poker players. Since people throw away their votes anyway if you inform them that their senator is against online poker and ask them to vote accordingly many will. This would require 200 or so part time volunteers in each state.

3. Once all the petitions are signed and we have massive numbers we send all the information to the major media. New York Times,CNN etc. If we could get 20 million signatures of people who say they won't vote for a candiate no matter what because of their position on this issue I think they will be concerned enough to do something.

Forget the "70 million poker players" nonsense (that number includes everyone in the U.S. who has ever played one hand of poker with play chips.)

Going by data collected by Nielsen Media Research over the past 4 years, there are less than 2 million Americans who consume poker as an entertainment product.

Congress, the land-based casinos, the Indian casinos, and WPT Enterprises all know that there are too few poker players to really make a difference at this point (in terms of reversing the UIGEA.)

The future of online poker in the U.S. appears to be either state-run (i.e. by the lottery commission of each state), or state-licensed online poker sites that will cater to INTRASTATE online poker action, with a tax rate on the order of 30-50% of gross receipts depending on the state. Station Casinos has already applied for an intrastate online gaming permit in Nevada. Others can't be far behind.

Yeah I'm not going to wait around for them to figure out how to make something that should be legal legal. It's time to get these guys out of office or make them do what we want.
