Default Late in cheap tournament 40ish out of 2600+

I have widdled my money down quite far, so I decided to play a cheap-o tournament $0.25 buy-in. There were only 40-ish players left, we were well into the money (money started at 501 players). I have been playing conservative, raising with aces-high kicker, pairs, etc..

How was my play on this hand? What is my next move?

Preflop: FOLD. This is one of the trashiest hands you could possibly hold. Villian raised from UTG, indicating strength. Fold prefold and move on to the next hand. Plain and simple.

Yeah...why the [censored] are we calling PF here? If it was an LP raiser I could understand, but this guy is UTG. Fold PF.

As played, I call the river pretty quick and expect to see top set (now a boat) quite often.

Why would you call if you are expecting to see top set?

I agree, I should have folded pre-flop... I forgot to post in the original post that the Bad Guy had been raising lots of pots.. frankly I didn't believe his raise.

I think about this a lot too. If a bad aggressive player raises does what does it mean? A lot of times it just means he is bad, but even bad players seem to have some understanding of position. I'd be more apt to call if I were on the button and he raised from MP-CO.

Put yourself in the villain's shoes. Even if he is too aggressive, is he so aggressive that he is raising garbage from UTG? Even if he is, does your holding far very well against it OOP?

This is fine, and you should be paying attention and picking up on things like this.

HOWEVER...

Even if you don't believe his raise you have to have something better than 64s to call with. Here is a list of hands you are ahead of: 63, 62, 54, 53, 52, 43, 42, 32. That's it. There are 169 possible hand combinations and you are ahead of 8 of them.

I don't care how loose a villian is, if he raises UTG, I'm folding 64s.

Good read, bad reaction.

Hope this helps.
