NLTRN - TPTK, valuebet river?
I'm new to HU-SNG's, before i was playing NL50 on FullTilt. I've encountered many of these situations and im not sure how to handle them.
(Edit: second hand of the game, no reads.) 10$ HU-SNG, Full Tilt Villain is at seat 0 with 1490. Hero is at seat 1 with 1510. The button is at seat 1. Hero posts the small blind of 10. Villain posts the big blind of 20. Villain: -- -- Hero: K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Pre-flop: Hero raises to 60. villain calls. Flop (board: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] villain checks. Hero bets 80. villain calls. Turn (board: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]) villain checks. Hero bets 150. villain calls. River (board: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]) villain checks... (I know, turnbet is too small...) |

i'd bet the river, you're going to be called by a worse king or a jack a lot.

I'd bet about the size of the pot. Are you worried he is slowplaying a set or something? He probably has a Jack or maybe Q 10. Make him pay up if he has a weak K or a jack

I don't mind the turn bet, you get value, keep a weak pair in the hand and make him pay a lot for the draw. Unless you have prior information to act on, why bet too much higher on this turn?
As for the river I agree, you have to bet it. |

Re: NLTRN - TPTK, valuebet river?
I like the way its played so far maybe a drop higher on the turn. I would probably stick in a bet anywhere from 1/4 to pot sized varying them.

Re: NLTRN - TPTK, valuebet river?
i would have checked the river (i know this may sound insane) with such a big pot size for being an early pot it has become already, i usually take a safe approach and check the river. true, theres a good chance he has a weak top pair, or maybe one of the middle pairs he will pay you for, but i find if u have been check-called all the way down, he has found a 2 pair and expects u to bet in to him. Too many times i see a villian check raise my river value bet and as stated above "hero curses and folds", because he knows i have shown strength throughout the hand
conclusions (summed-up from my rant): a check will lead to: 1. a fair sized pot taken by hero to be an advantageous chipleader for awhile OR 2. minimize a loss by a villian's sneaky attempt at a big check raise |

Re: NLTRN - TPTK, valuebet river?
It's a ten dollar HU SNG. Players call down with a Jack most often. They also seem to call down with weak kings. His calling range preflop and his calls after the flop definitely indicate you are ahead, I would be upset if I checked behind here and he had a jack or weaker king, and if I checked behind here most of the time I think that's what you're up against.
If the guy is a maniac he generally will raise you well before this, same with a bluff. Most 10 dollar players don't have the patience to bluff the river this early and won't come over the top with anything except maybe JJ or KK, JJ most people are reraising preflop anyways here. And the odds of him catching a K7, J7 or K3 are not that high anyways, I just don't see how you can check behind here and miss a sure value situation. If he shoves over your value bet or raises you, now that's a much tougher thing to deal with. But you can't miss value based on an option the player has (raising) on a board that isn't very scary and you're almost always ahead on. |
