Default Sucked out every hand...

Is it just me playing bad (although for a few days i was going up) or is it a common thing to have a run of bad cards and get sucked out of aalmost every hand by the fish on draws or what not?

Could be a combination of both but sometimes luck just simply sucks.

How many hands are we talking here? 100? 1,000? Could be either. 50,000? You suck. The way you're playing pre-flop is often underestimated when evaluating whether opponents are lucking out or you suck. Limping or mini-raising preflop then pushing the flop with big PP = the suck. Slow playing sets only to get drawn out on with a flush on the river = suck. Giving opponents the correct odds to continue drawing = suck. Just something to consider when looking at your downswings.

My second week after I moved up to $200 NLHE 6-max I was seated just to the left of a total maniac/idiot. In the course of < 150 hands I managed to get all-in with him 4 times. Each time I had the best hand. In 3 of the 4 times my opponent had 4 outs or less. He also hit all 4 times and took me for a good $750 or so. I was upset and quit playing for the night and started to ask myself the very questions you are now asking.

I returned to my usual game, my confidence bruised but not broken the next day after realizing I had made very +EV plays each of the 4 hands that crushed me. Despite the results, my plays were very good.

So what you need to ask yourself is, in the hands where you're getting sucked out on . . . did you protect your hand? did you pay off more than you should have after getting sucked out on? were you really as big a favorite as you thought you were or did you get your money in not quite as well as you thought?

If you can answer these questions the "right" way and you're properly bankrolled, results will always follow with enough play. Just as inevitably as the casino makes its money for the year on slots or blackjack no matter how hot the players are running for a given night, if you're making better decisions than your opponents, you'll make money at poker.

Last night I also look through the previous day's hands (of which was a bad day). I realised I played very good, e.g. didn't give him drawing odds, then used pot control and the villian got a very lucky card on the river. So I could go back to the tables with my bruises healing much quicker knowing my plays were good and the lady luck biatch just didn't like my cologne.

Yeah, you should read this a 3rd time.

By the way, since we're in the beginner's forum, try to bounce your play off of someone (preferably many people... say on this discussion board) to see if you actually played the hand well. I know enough people who complain about getting outdrawn, but they played their hand so badly that it was correct for their opponent to try to hit. These same people don't realize how badly they played it but continue to make mistakes and complain about lucky rivers.

If you're playing limit HE, then crazy swings should be expected. If you're playing no-limit, and you've been losing for a decent period of time, then you're probably a fish.

Given all that I know about OP is that he's in the beginner's forum, then it's likely your game needs a lot of work.

Bad runs are not just common, they are a certainty. You'll also have runs of everyone sucking out on you. Everyone who posts here can tell you stories about it, people hitting one outers, or catching runner runner to win.

The hardest part is learning to recognize whether you've made the correct choices and still got unlucky, or whether you made mistakes that make it seem you got unlucky.

Example, giving someone proper odds to call with a flush draw (which is pretty easy to see) and them catching the flush isn't bad luck alone, it's poor play on your part. You don't give them the odds, and well, they just got unlucky this time, but if you played that same situation over and over, you'd come out ahead.

Bad beats hurt, both your pocket book and your discipline, and a huge advantage some people have is the ability to not let such beats affect their play.

Well I've been playing NL Hold Em for 2 yrs now and my game and strategy have vastly improved...since coming to these forums and reading SSHE I have switched over to Limit...that was a brief period of suck outs during the time I wrote this but I still have not touched my bank roll and have been playing with the fishes money since my entrance to Limit its just like Pov said if I make +EV I will inevitably be successful..Thank you for all your posts....
