75/150 H.O.E. Foxwoods

Great 75 game at foxwoods this past weekend.

This is the first hold'em rotation, and I am only somewhat familiar w/ the two opponents in this hand. They are both hold'em experts and play very very well and very tricky.. not to mention UTG in this hand applies max pressure on his opponents and I know this.

Fellow 2+2'er (BK1248) opens UTG, folded to the sb (joe the jeweler for those of you familiar.. he's one of the best players that frequents the casino) calls in SB (2/3 structure) I call KdQd in the BB.

Flop: Kh6d2h
check, check, bet, sb raises, i 3-bet, UTG folds, SB calls.

Turn: 8s
check, check.

River: Qc
sb checks, i bet, he tanks it and folds.

after the hand UTG is upset saying he'd call w/ his 99 any day. "he repped a FD and you couldnt call 1 bet w/ any pair?" was his exact quote.

This hand is significant because earlier at the 20/40 game SB and I had gotten involved in a hand where I raised in EP, he 3-bet i called and check called the A high flop w/ AJ scooping against his A9o, and him expecting to win the pot.

thoughts? did i miss a bet on the turn or was my thinking correct here that my chance of gaining a river bet from him was significantly higher by checking the turn?

Not sure if you missed a bet but giving him a free card when he has the flush draw is pretty nasty. A lot of his hands will be suited connector type hands to coldcall in the 2/3 structure SB so on that board I think he has a flush draw a lot. His tank on the river is just hollywooding + trying to figure out what you have.

turn bet seems completely standard unless you think it's possible you're behind which you don't mention in the post. there are very very few monsters he could be holding.

also i don't think you're repping a flush draw at all given the game is maybe a little big for you

i think you lost 150 dollars this hand. Bet the turn.

I think you got way too tricky.

-The pot's pretty big, so if he folds a 5 outer, no big deal.
-You're in position, so its even less likely he'll decide to get tricky with pair + str8 or fd.
-He's not getting away from KT/KJ and all the other reasonable K's have 2pair or str8 draw by now, so they can't fold either.

So while you might have to call a raise on the turn, it won't happen all that often.

I think this is an easy bet on the turn, esp. in a high limit game vs. a good player. He might think you have a big heart draw and decide to pay off with either a worse king or queen. Or he might be drawing himself and you are giving a dangerous and costly free card. Plus, if he has something like 7's, he'll just fold the river if turn is checked since he'll prob know you should know that bluffing the river would be fruitless so your hand is likely legit. Also, it's very rare people take their foot off the gas here in a 75 game on the turn - he expects you to bet the turn and sometimes you should just do what he expects and not get fancy for max profit.

Personally I'd be pretty happy that the flop action concluded as it did and just as happy to bet the turn and river for value. If you have to think about this kind of hand too long you're going to fry your poker synapses very soon.

He's right. As for your line, it makes zero sense to me as to why you'd 3 bet that flop and then ch behind a good card for you on the turn.

When these mistakes happen to me it's because I'm so intent on executing my flop plan and then instinctively ch the turn without much thought.

His last name isn't greek. He's pretty tall, quite gregarious and usually needs a shave. I don't think that he's 40 yet. He's a very good thinking semi-lag. He used to be a LAG but he's toned it down a bit over the last year or so.
